Our Medical Specialties
General Surgery
Surgery is a specialty that deals with diagnostics and treatments, in particular by performing operations. This includes inguinal hernias, varicose veins, obesity and (accident) injury. The surgeons treat injuries, growths, vascular abnormalities and infections by performing operations. These can be common minor surgeries such as hemorrhoids or inguinal hernias, or complex surgeries for which you are hospitalized for several days.
Anesthesia
Anesthesiology is the specialism that mainly concerns the administering of anesthesia ("without sensation"). Anesthesia, providing care surgery during and in the Intensive Care unit are some of the tasks within anesthesiology. An anesthesiologist is a medical specialist who practices anesthesiology.
Dermatology
Dermatology is the specialty that deals with the recognition and treatment of disorders of the skin. Everything on the outside of the body belongs to the skin, including hair, nails and mucous membranes. Our dermatologists treat all acute and chronic skin diseases, such as acne, eczema or psoriasis.
Gynecology
Gynecology is the specialty in medicine that deals with the complaints about the female genitalia. For example, you can contact us for problems related to the sexual organs, such as irregular or excessive menstruation, abnormal smear test, contraception and sexological problems. Another part of Gynecology is Obstetrics, the specialization that deals with pregnancy and childbirth. Women who need medical supervision during pregnancy, for example with high blood pressure, a pregnant woman who has to undergo a caesarean section and women who have problems getting pregnant, can go to a gynecologist at the Sint Vincentius Hospital.
Internal Medicine
Internal medicine focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases regarding the internal organs, disorders of all internal processes in the body, and physical complaints for which no diagnosis has yet been found. You can think of infectious diseases, high blood pressure and metabolic diseases, kidney diseases, osteoporosis and blood and bone marrow diseases. The internist is called in for vague or complicated complaints, for which no cause of the disease has yet been found. Our medical specialists examine at the entire body and the relationship between the different organs. An internist never operates, but can advise and refer this to a surgeon. In the treatment of illnesses, the internist can advise medications or lifestyle changes.
Otorhinolaryngology
The ear, nose and throat specialist (ENT specialist) is involved in the treatment of diseases regarding the throat, nose, ears and neck. Our ENT specialist focuses on examining and treating nasal congestion, hoarseness, laryngitis, removal of tonsils, hearing loss and sinus infections.
Pediatrics
Pediatrics is the medical specialty that deals with the examination and treatment of patients aged 0 to 16 years. The pediatrician does not only treat children who have a disease or condition. Children whose normal development or growth is disturbed can also be examined and treated by the pediatrician. Our pediatricians, together with other healthcare providers, provide the best possible care for sick children, with child-friendliness at the forefront.
Pediatric Nephrology
The Nephrology specialism focuses on kidney diseases. These are disorders that cause damage to the kidney (s), such as inflammation of the kidneys and cyst kidneys. The pediatric nephrologist deals with complaints and diseases that originate in the kidneys, bladder and urinary tract of children. Examples of such complaints are pain when urinating, not being able to control urination, blood when urinating, but sometimes also complaints of fluid retention and high blood pressure. There are several kidney diseases. Some children have red blood cells or protein in the urine. Other children have high blood pressure, kidney stones or fluid retention.
Neurology
Neurology is the specialty that deals with diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscle diseases. The most common neurological conditions for which patients can turn to our neurologists are epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, dementia, stroke, concussion, migraine and hernia.
Orthopedics
Orthopedics focuses on pain relief and restriction of movement. Our orthopedic surgeons examine and treat patients with musculoskeletal disorders, such as your knee, hip, ankle, hand and wrist. These problems can be congenital, arose later in life or the result of an accident (traumatology). We investigate your complaints, discuss the treatment options and decide together with you what is the best treatment in your personal situation.
Psychiatry
Psychiatry is the specialism that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of psychological complaints. These psychological complaints can include anxiety, mood, personality, trauma or developmental problems. We offer this care at our outpatient psychiatry clinic. Your general practitioner or medical specialist can refer you to our psychiatry.
Radiology
Radiology is the medical specialty that deals with the imaging of the body by means of rays or waves. This imaging is often indispensable in determining the nature and location of a disease or injury. The radiology department of the St. Vincentius Hospital performs various examinations, including: ultrasound scans, X-rays and skeletal X-rays.
Rheumatology
Rheumatology is a medical specialty that deals with rheumatic diseases. It is often referred to as 'rheumatism'. Rheumatic complaints are pain complaints in parts of the musculoskeletal system such as muscles, tendons, joints, bones and / or internal organs. The most common types of rheumatism are osteoarthritis, gout, soft tissue rheumatism (fibromyalgia) and rheumatoid arthritis. With a quick and correct treatment, complaints can often be significantly reduced. You can contact us for all rheumatic complaints.
Urology
Urology is the specialty that deals with complaints concerning the male and female urinary tract and male genitalia. You can think of problems with your pelvic floor, bladder, prostate, penis or kidney. Common problems are urinary complaints, kidney stones, cystitis, incontinence, malignancies (bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer) and male infertility.
